The Greek Olympics were a very special event held every four years in honor of the God Zeus. The Olympics would have many types of races like running, boxing, and horse races!
The races took place on a track with clay and sand, and whomever won would win a laurel wreath.
Boxing was a very violent sport. The referees would have to work very hard to keep the opponents from killing each other. The winner was given a laurel wreath and respected in his home town. Boxers would pay a great price to win.
Horse races were something that the Greeks especially enjoyed and cheered on. The horses would start in a pen and be let out when it was time to race. The owner of the horse would hire a jockey and cheer on their horse.
The Greek Olympics were a very special event that helped bring the Greeks together to have fun!
