The Flavian Dynasty

Today I will be telling you about the Flavian dynasty, the three emperors of the Flavian dynasty were some of the most powerful, and most feared by the people.

The first emperor was Vespasian. He was a Roman general in combat when he was called by the people to challenge their emperor to the throne. Vespasian then returned to Rome and convinced the emperor to step down. Vespasian ruled for 27 years, in those years he built the Coliseum, came out against the Jews, and was succeeded by his biological son, Titus.

Titus was the second Flavian ruler in Roman history. He succeeded his father and finished the Coliseum.  Although he was a great ruler he only reigned for 3 years because he died of fever. In the years he did reign, he finished a lot of the work his father started, and completed more construction than any emperor in Rome. Titus was succeeded by Domitian, the last living Flavian in Roman history.

Domitian was the last Flavian ruler and reigned for 10 years and may have had a hand in killing Titus. He ruled in a time of peace, but he made his people fear him by being a very strict ruler, He was recorded in Roman history as a tyrant, but we are told that he was jealous of his older brother Titus. He was forced into a marriage when he was crowned, and that probably brought about the tension that he created in the Roman empire. He was assassinated after his ten-year reign, and ended the Flavian dynasty.

The Flavian dynasty was a relatively short and very strong but feared family line. It was also the first dynasty to have blood related rulers.
