The After Life

The afterlife was important to Egyptians because they wanted to be resurrected in the afterlife, so they lived their lives guided by the afterlife. Their daily culture was preparing for the afterlife and consisted of architecture and the burial process.

Egyptian architecture consisted of statues that were often made of gold and limestone. The Egyptians made them because they wanted to honor their Gods and Pharaohs. Another form of architecture they used was pyramids, temples, and sphinxes built with limestone and a protective coating. Sphinxes were the same as pyramids except they took on the shape of an animal. Temples were built to help the people to pray to their Gods, but they were also rooms where mummification took place. You might ask the question ‘’what does this have to do with the afterlife”? The pyramids, the sphinxes, and the temples are all home to the Mummy where they resurrect.

The burial process was an important part of the afterlife because they wanted to preserve the body well for the afterlife. The body was laid on a table, then the brain was removed through the nose and discarded. The liver, stomach, intestines, and heart were placed in separate canopic jars. The body was covered in a special salt/soil found by the Nile and left for up the seventy days before wrapping in muslin and put in a coffin.

Egyptians belief in the afterlife prioritized their actions and culture to prepare for resurrection.
