The Inheritance Games

Today we will be talking about the plot of The Inheritance Games. The exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

The exposition in this book is getting to know the main character, Avery. Avery is a girl trying to get through school with a good grade, when she passes an impossible test. As a result, the mysterious Grayson Hawthorne tells her she must be present for the reading of a will.

The rising action is when the reading of the will takes place. Avery also gets to meet the other three Hawthorne brothers, Nash, Xander, and Jameson Hawthorne. The will is from the boy’s grandfather, Tobias Hawthorne, who was a billionaire.

The will is read and Avery gets the most of the old man’s fortune, disinheriting the Hawthorne family, namely Grayson Hawthorne. Jameson thinks that there is still another puzzle to be solved even though there might be more to Avery.

The climax of the story is the Game that the boy’s grandfather put in place to help them figure out why he disinherited the boys and their family, and gave it all to Avery. Avery herself is doubting if this fortune is real. The Game itself starts in a library and ends in Avery’s past.

The falling action is when Avery and the Hawthorne brothers find out that Avery is the daughter of Tobias Hawthorne’s biological son, Toby Hawthorne. Avery and the brothers find out that Toby’s first love (Avery’s mom), had a baby with another man, but Toby still cares for Avery and her mom.

The resolution is when Avery is united with her stepfather and is accepted into the Hawthorne family.

The Inheritance Games is a story about love, trust and most importantly, Games.
